“ The very neat 1942-only hidden headlights were called Airfoil Lamps, and advertised as “out of sight except at night.” They still work here, the first appearance of hidden headlights on a production car.”

Just searched up Wikipedia, I think this is gonna be a technicality but,

I think electric powered and turned by hand are the difference. BaT is unclear about that though.

Seeing as how they say just say “the first appearance of hidden headlights” I'm gonna assume they're just wrong

The text is kinda weird. In the top paragraph they say first  electrically operated ones which is right but then further down where you quoted it just says first appearance of hidden headlights which is wrong because Cord.

Agreed. In terms of ‘hidden headlights’ the Cord definitely did it first, though I believe the lights on them were manual crank only.

BaT writeups are frequently wrong - at least until commenters point out obvious errors like this and BaT edits the listing.

Seems like maybe they meant electric headlamp doors, but that’s not what it says.

I think the operative word is “production” as in mass production. The others cited are   such low volume that they can’t count as production cars . For example d o you recall an Alfa 8C assembly line? I doubt they were building one a day.. Hmmmm, things don’t change much do they.....

The more interesting question is does the feature really make the DeSoto collectible and valuable ? Or is it just an oddball , unsuccessful model with a wonky feature that really didn’t make a difference.....

I suppose the auction will tell.......

i think because the Cord was still such a premuim car. Like comparing something on a NSX to an A ccord.
